A beginner's guide to Journaling

How to Journal

Poorly. Yep poorly.
Don’t get hung up on whether or not it’s good enough. Everyone starts everything poorly, don’t they? Just make a start and improve as you go. It will be a bit like your horsemanship journey. One day you’ll look back and realise how far you’ve come.

Slowly.
Start with just a sentence a day and then increase to two. It doesn’t have to be war and peace, just write a few lines.

What to Journal

Apparently, to get the full emotional benefit of journaling you should explore your thoughts and feelings, dig deep and tell the story.

Or not. I’m not much into rules.

Here’s my suggestions:
  • Make quick notes of the highlights of your day
  • Make lists, maybe a gratitude list
  • Use it for doodling, I love a good doodle
  • If you're artistic use it for drawing or sketching. Even if you’re not artistic just have a go
Or simply just use this journal as a notebook:
  • Use it at clinics to take notes
  • Use it to record your horses progress
  • Use it to record the dates of their vaccinations, dental work and hoof trimming

Rules of Journaling

Rules? There are none, surely!
It’s your journal, your story, and your life.

Write what you want, pour out your heart, or not. Don’t worry about whether your children (or anyone else) will find it when you’re dead and gone. You’ll be dead and gone anyway so what does it matter.

If your kids are anything like mine, they’re probably nosy parkers and will love reading it.
Leave them the gift. Write your story and let it go.

Which Journal Should You Use?

This one.
It's beautiful. So beautiful it should be enjoyed and treasured. It's handmade from genuine leather and filled with recycled cotton paper.

It already has a distressed finished and will continue to age and become more beautiful.

Hi Colleen. Just a question. Is it possible to replace pages and / or do you have refills. And how many pages in Journal?
Cheers Carmen
