US Tariffs & De Minimis: What It Means For You
We’re a small, family-run Australian business, proudly based in North Queensland. Our garments are manufactured in India and shipped directly from Australia to our customers around the world, including the United States.
With all the recent talk about new US import tariffs and changes to the duty-free threshold (also known as the "de minimis" rule), we know it can be confusing — especially if you're trying to figure out whether it affects your order.
We’ve done a lot of reading, research, and cross-checking, including communicating directly with the Director of the US Trade Taskforce from the DoFAT, and while things are still evolving, we want to share what we understand right now, as clearly and honestly as we can.
🔹 What Is the De Minimis Rule?
The de minimis rule allows US customers to receive imports (your order from us) valued under $800 US without paying import duties. It’s what makes most international online shopping feel easy and straight forward. For context, $800 US currently covers more than four pairs of our riding pants — so most Ride Proud orders stay comfortably under the threshold.
🔹 What’s Changing? There’s been a lot of news around tariffs, but here’s what we understand at the moment:
- The de minimis threshold will continue in place for now, other than for goods manufactured in China and Hong Kong.
- As of 10 April 2025, there is a 90 day pause on any additional tariffs beyond 10%. (So far, this hasn’t affected orders under $800 USD — like yours — but we’re keeping a close watch).

- We’re a small, family-run Australian business, proudly based in North Queensland.
- All our garments are manufactured in India.
- Orders are shipped directly from Australia — no third-party warehouses, no middlemen, just our family, direct to you.

- Whether further changes will be announced.
- What will happen beyond the 90 day pause on additional tariffs.
- When the duty-free
de minimis treatment will cease.
✅ What This Means for You (For Now)
- At today's date, orders under $800 USD remain eligible for duty-free entry into the US under the current de minimis rule.
- We ship from Australia, and our garments are made in countries not currently subject to de minimis removal.
- We’ll continue monitoring for any changes and will update this page if new information comes to light.
- Please note: any duties or taxes imposed at the border remain the responsibility of the customer.

Shipping
We ship using the Australia Post Standard Shipping Service both within Australia and internationally. Orders are shipped next business day, if not the same day.
Australia and New Zealand: $10.00
Rest of the world: $20.00

Returns
If you’re not 100% happy with your purchase you are more than welcome to exchange for another style or size or return it for a full refund (less shipping of course), no questions asked.
Our policy lasts 30 days, but having said that, we’re not strict about it. We understand life happens and things take time, particularly if you’re shopping from overseas. As long as that particular style is still current and available on the website we’ll happily refund or exchange.
